COURSE DESCRIPTION: Are you seeing persons with Functional Neurologic Disorders? If you are not, it MAY be because…you are not seeing them! Much like the other Invisible Conditions of persistent pain, persons with Functional Neurologic Disorders often go misdiagnosed or misheard, alienating them from the medical community. No longer! This course will improve your diagnostics, patient communication, patient education, multidisciplinary team coordination, and management. In this course one of a two-part course, practitioners will exit with increased familiarity in the entire umbrella of FND, and specific management of: Persistent Postural Perceptual Disorder (PPPD); Functional Movement Disorders (FMD); and Functional Gait Disorders (FGD). DO NOT HESITATE – this course will not be “overwhelming”, Dr. Studer is prepared to build-on what you already know about pain neuroscience, motivational interviewing, patient engagement and more…which will strengthen our capacities to care for all persons. Be prepared for an enlightening application from Dr. Mike Studer that delves into the neurophysiology and more importantly APPLICATIONS for all of these conditions.
OBJECTIVES: By the end of this course, attendees will:
Have a working knowledge enough to educate on the applied neurophysiology of: PPPD, FMD, and FGD
Have a working knowledge enough to state evidence-based interventions for: PPPD and FND.
Have a working knowledge sufficient to apply principles of differential diagnostics (rule-in) for persons with PPPD, FMD, or Functional Gait as compared to other vestibulopathies and movement disorders.

7:30-8:45 An introduction to “the invisibles”: history of nomenclature and discoveries: From pain to FNDs
8:45-10:30 (break 9:30 x 15) The neurophysiologies of PPPD, FND, and FGDs as related to a common foundation: Persistent pain
10:30-11:30 The connections and differential examination to rule-in FMDs from other movement disorders: PD, Huntington's, inherited conditions, parkinsonisms, and Essential Tremor. Management of FMDs.
11:30-12:00 Demonstration and interactive experience: FMD examinations
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch Break
1:00-1:30 Differential examination (and demonstration) to rule-in PPPDs from other vestibulopathies, and conditions of dysautonomia. Management of PPPD.
1:30 – 2:15 Differential examination (and demonstration) to rule-in Functional Gait Disorders from other conditions leading to disordered gait. Management of Functional Gait Disorders.
2:30-2:45 Break
2:45-3:40 Video case studies, educating the person with FND and BONUS treatment applications expanded,
3:30- 4:00-4:30 Questions, summaries, and interaction.

TITLE: Functional Neurologic Disorders: In Athletics, Recovery, Cognition and Consciousness

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
If you are not seeing people with Functional Neurologic Disorders (FND), it MAY be because you are not seeing them. They may be right in front of you and presenting with something that you are labeling as: malingering, choking under pressure, anxiety, a vasovagal syndrome, an “odd presentation” of seizure, complicated recovery from an orthopedic procedure, early signs of dementia, hypochondriasis, or even something you are labeling as a phobia. In this course we’re going to talk about the full complement of FND phenotypes with specific attention to: the Yips, the Twisties, drop attacks, Functional Cognitive Disorders, Functional Seizures, Functional Speech Disorders - and so much more! Be ready to update your terms, improve your examination and educational skills and open your eyes to the world that’s in front of you by empowering yourself with the skills to both rule these conditions in and engage these patients with an evidence-based approach toward resolution and self-management.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Have a working knowledge enough to define, identify and examine the presentations of FND affecting cognition, consciousness and performance across the lifespan and continuum of care.
Identify the physiology, terminology and educational constructs with evidence for persons with FND.
Identify the evidence-based interventions for the stated presentations of FND.
Identify evidence and applications to reduce fear and enable long-term self-management of our patients with these stated presentations of FND.
