Floating Beauty
November 18, 2025-January 29, 2026
On Loan from the Reading Public Museum
Floating Beauty: Women in the Art of Ukiyo-e is a historic series of fifty woodblocks offering insight into the lives of women in Edo Period Japan (1615 – 1858), from courtesans and geisha to wives and mothers performing the duties of their station. While many prints highlight idealized beauty (bijinga), they also reveal women as industrious and capable, managing households and fulfilling societal expectations with strength and resilience. Floating Beauty is accompanied by gallery talks, workshops, and demonstrations, as well as an exhibition of carvings and textiles from The Maridon Musuem, Butler, PA.
East Meets West: The Maridon Collection

It’s collection features exceptional examples of Chinese and Japanese art, ranging from ancient carvings to contemporary ceramics.
