Calling All Crescent City Cooks! 🎺
Get ready to bring the flavor of the Big Easy to North Wales! As part of our immersive Rhythms of Resilience: The Music History of NOLA"event on February 13th, we're hosting an epic culinary showdown—and we want YOU to show off your baking skills!
Whether you're a master of the brioche or a wizard with chicory, we have TWO delicious categories for you to enter:
👑 The King of Cakes Challenge
This is all about the traditional Mardi Gras centerpiece! We're looking for your best version of the classic King Cake—that iconic oval-shaped brioche pastry that reigns supreme during Carnival season.
What makes a King Cake? Think rich, cinnamon-swirled dough (or your own creative filling!), topped with a sweet glaze and decorated in the festive colors of Mardi Gras: purple (justice), green (faith), and gold (power). Don't forget—tradition says a tiny baby (or trinket) is hidden inside for one lucky guest to find!
Whether you stick to the traditional cinnamon-filled brioche or get wild with modern fillings like cream cheese, praline, or even strawberry, your entry must capture the spirit of Carnival with those iconic purple, green, and gold colors!
☕ The Café Du Monde Challenge
Inspired by the world-famous French Market coffee stand that's been serving up NOLA magic since 1862, this category celebrates the iconic flavors of coffee, chicory, and beignets!
What's the vibe? Think of those powdered sugar-covered beignets paired with a steaming cup of café au lait (coffee blended with chicory root for that distinctive bold, slightly sweet flavor). Your entry should highlight these signature tastes—whether it's a coffee-infused cake, chicory-spiced cookies, beignet-inspired pastries, tiramisu with a NOLA twist, or any baked good dusted in mountains of powdered sugar that would make the folks on Decatur Street proud!
This category is all about capturing that early morning magic of the French Quarter in baked form. ☕✨
