FIU Piano Concert - José López & Guest Viera Borisova: Schubert & Shostakov
About this Event
Celebrate Schubert’s birthday with an evening of chamber music shaped by beauty, intimacy, and dramatic contrast. Violist Viera Borisova joins FIU Piano Professor José López for Schubert’s beloved Arpeggione Sonata, a work filled with graceful melodies, warmth, and emotional directness. Written for a short-lived 19th-century instrument, the sonata has lived on as one of Schubert’s most cherished works for solo instrument and piano.
The program also features Shostakovich’s Sonata, Op. 147, the composer’s final work and one of the great late statements for viola and piano. Borisova, a Moscow Conservatory-trained violist and international prizewinner, has performed across Europe, Latin America, and the United States. Together, they offer Miami audiences a powerful chamber music experience, moving from Schubert’s lyric elegance to Shostakovich’s unforgettable intensity.
