Speaker: Marsha Dekker
Program: Finding Interesting Family Information: A Lesson in Genealogy

Program Description:

Have you ever wondered what stories might be hidden in your family’s past? This program introduces the basics of genealogical research and shows how everyday records can reveal fascinating family connections. Participants will learn how to use sources such as census records, marriage and death certificates, and military service documents to uncover links to larger historical events, including the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. This session is ideal for beginners and anyone curious about tracing family stories through history.

She is a member of the State Team of Registrars for inquiries about joining and a Volunteer Genealogist who helps other Registrars and Chapters with difficult applications to join. Marsha is President of a chapter for Michigan Daughters of 1812 & has joined a new State Committee, E Pluribus Unum, whose purpose is to provide education to DAR members & the public of African & Native Americans who participated in the Revolutionary War.
