About this Event

Join Us for a Fundraiser for New Independent Social Justice Feature Film, SILENT PARTNER, and Join the Conversation.

Get ready for an unforgettable evening celebrating the power of storytelling and bringing an important new Social Justice Film to life. This is your chance to connect with passionate folks, catch a sneak peek at the film, and support a meaningful cause—all in person.

Don't miss out on this unique experience to make a difference and engage in a fantastic conversation with the creator Roderick Lawrence (star of TINA! The Tina Turner Musical), producer Salma Qarnain (former Managing Director of DC's Synetic Theater, ex-AOL, and original Broadway cast of LIFE OF PI), and producer Tonya Rutherford (attorney & legacy coach, ex-AOL, ex-Verizon), with special guest Marcus Johnson!

Get there early for the step and repeat, participate in intimate discussions about themes such as mental health, inclusion, and legacy, and enjoy old and new connections for Mental Health Awareness Month and AAPI Heritage month (many of our producers!).

Join the discussion to tell us how the film should end!

Logline: A Black couple’s strength is tested when the ambitious husband, a star defense attorney at a white-shoe law firm, is thrust into a controversial stand-your-ground case in which he must defend a White woman who murdered a Black teen.

SILENT PARTNER is co-written by DMV native and resident James J. Johnson and directed by Academy Member Eric Branco (DP of CLEMENCY) in a stunning directorial debut. The film stars Roderick Lawrence (TINA), Susan Heyward (THE BOYS), and Jeff Perry (SCANDAL). The film is based on the short film of the same name that screened at 25 festivals, won 13 awards, was an HBO Max Short Film Competition finalist, and qualified for the Oscars.
