Film Screening: Transit Havana!

Under the leadership of Mariela Castro, Cuba’s CENESEX (Cuba’s National Center for Sex Education) has pioneered sexual health education and trans healthcare, embedding LGBT liberation within the broader revolutionary project. Cuba’s Family Code is one of the most participatory and revolutionary pieces of legislation in the world, which recognises the diversity of families in Cuba, expanding the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people while also strengthening cultural life and the Cuban revolutionary socialist process. Rather than alienating and moralising, these reforms have worked to bring people along through mass participation, a remarkable achievement under the shadow of a devastating 60 year US blockade.

In a country like Britain, where society is increasingly atomised, fractured by culture wars and division there is much to learn from revolutionary Cuba.
