In celebration of Black History Month, join us for a screening of Haitian-Panamanian filmmaker Michèle Stephenson’s 2025 documentary "True North," presented in partnership with the Alliance Française of Chicago and the Quebec Government Office in Chicago. Ms. Stephenson’s moving film centers on the 1969 protests against systemic racism at Concordia University in Montreal, sparked by a complaint of racism filed by six Black students from the Caribbean. Searing and galvanizing, "True North" explores this little-known history, which was a turning point in race relations and activism in Canada. Alternating between intimate interviews with those who lived through the protests and startling archival footage, "True North" is a first-person narrative told by the young people who dared to stand up for their rights.Free registration: tinyurl.com/ye24ryyk
