Alan's pick tonight and he's gone for a classic of Czech cinema. A taut, uncompromising period thriller shot in striking, luminescent black-and-white.

The Valley of the Bees
(Údolí včel, 1968), directed by František Vláčil, is a haunting medieval drama that explores the brutal collision between rigid religious dogmatism and human freedom.
