Ten years ago, Clementine Ford gave a generation of Australian girls and women something they didn't know they were starving for: permission to be angry. Hailed as an instant classic, FIGHT LIKE A GIRL debuted at number one and galvanised readers across the nation. Her words were unapologetic in their fury, even as she offered an expansive vision of the liberation girls and women could collectively fight for.
But fighting for justice has never come without a cost, especially when the powerful find themselves under threat. The backlash was swift, unrelenting and frequently personal. In the last decade, Ford has weathered more battles than most (even if she also started a few she went on to regret.) She's withstood unrelenting attempts to silence her, some of which have been successful.
But she's still here. Still furious. Still fighting.
This is a show about what it takes to keep fighting, even when you feel like you have nothing left. It's a show about the resilience, courage and strength that all girls have, and how that power can be unleashed.
This is a show for people who want to save the world, even when they believe the world doesn't want to save them.
Ten years on, what does Australia's most fearless feminist think is still worth fighting for?
Everything.
**13+, with adult supervision. Please note, this show contains adult themes and lots of swearing.**
This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and the Bulmba-ja Arts Centre.
