Once again, our Foundation is facing serious challenges reserving Town facilities for our annual International Overdose Awareness 5K & Recovery Festival — an event that honors lives lost, supports families, and brings hope to those still struggling.
Despite:
• Years of collaboration with local partners
• State and CT-level recognition and decrees supporting overdose awareness events
• Our proven history of responsible, inclusive, and well-run community programming
…we are being blocked from access.
🚨 The core issue:
One organization — the New Milford Commission on the Arts — has been allowed to reserve every single Saturday during the season, effectively preventing any other nonprofit from utilizing Town facilities. This is not equitable, collaborative, or in the spirit of community service.
What makes this especially painful:
• We attempted collaboration last year — it failed
• Promises to promote our event were not honored
• Promises to protect our candlelight vigil were not honored
• Our collaboration efforts in the past have been dismissed, ignored, and has not been reciprocated.
We are not asking for special treatment.
We are asking for fair access, equity, and a seat at the table.
👉 Here’s how you can help:
• Attend Town Council and speak during public comment
• Share why overdose awareness, remembrance, and recovery matter
• Speak up for fairness for all nonprofits — not just one
Your voice matters. Your presence matters. And together, our community is stronger when every organization has the chance to serve.
🙏 Please share this post and stand with us on Monday 1/12 at 6:45 PM.
