Trip/area Description: This protected scrub habitat is home to unique birds and plants. Susan and Wes will guide the walk which is habitat for Florida Scrub Jays, woodpeckers, Red-shouldered Hawks, Loggerhead Shrikes, ibis, and gopher tortoises. Characteristic Florida scrub plants include reindeer lichen, sand and Chapman oaks, and the wild rosemary bushes that protect this unique and threatened environment.

Walking distance: The level, mile-long trail is an easy walk on firm sandy soil.

Where to meet: Wininger Park is located near Pelican Island Elementary School on Barber Street between Schumann Dr. and Empire Terrace in Sebastian. Park along Barber Street near the monument.
