Field Class: Gardening Under Mature Trees with Christina Pfeiffer

Christina Pfeiffer, a highly regarded Seattle-based horticulture educator and ISA Certified Arborist, will cover how to assess where, how and what type of new plants to add under mature trees. Installing new plantings and maintaining old gardens within the shade and root zone of large trees can present challenges for the trees and companion plantings alike. We will look at tools and methods for determining tree root locations, different examples of tree and understory plantings, and best practices for adapting and maintaining plantings within the microclimate influences of mature trees. This field class will be held in cooperation with Dunn Gardens staff.
