About this Event
To celebrate the festive period, Peak Outdoor Coaching has teamed up with Make More Magic for a Christmas Hike and Festive Wreath Workshop! Led by Emily from Peak Outdoor Coaching, the day will begin with a moderate walk, which takes us on a beautiful 8km loop to explore some hidden gems on the edge of the Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park. The glorious Seven Falls is the highlight of this hike along with some stunning views down into the Longdendale Valley. We'll learn about the fascinating history, geology and flora and fauna about this area along the way.
On our return, we'll be treated with a well-deserved festive tipple as we will be joined by Mel, who will lead a festive wreath workshop. Here, you will spend the next two hours unleashing your inner creative and crafting a unique and beautiful festive wreath to get you into the holiday spirit and add a personal touch to your festive decor.
Hike details:
Distance: 4.5 miles/7km
Level: Easy/Moderate/Challenging: some uneven ground that may be slippery this time of year. Some hills and stiles to climb but a fair level of fitness would be adequate.
Ascent: 300m
Who will be your guide?
I’m Emily, founder of Peak Outdoor Coaching and I’m a Hill and Moorland Leader based in Glossop at the edge of the Dark Peak. I’ve always been outdoorsy since being a young girl but hiking became a real obsession in 2019 when I started to go solo. I aim to inspire other women to learn the many benefits of exploring in the outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing my love for adventure with you!
Who will be delivering the wreath workshop?
Mel Fielding is the founder of Make More Magic, a community focused on empowering women through outdoor adventures and creative experiences. Transitioning from a corporate background to following her true calling, Mel now leads seasonal events and retreats that encourage women to connect with nature, embrace new experiences and rediscover the magic in their everyday lives. A passionate outdoor enthusiast, Mel is dedicated to helping others find joy, resilience and purpose through community and connection with the natural world.
Transport:
We will be meeting at Tintwistle Cricket Club, Manchester Rd, Tintwistle, Glossop SK13 1NF (Google Maps: https://g.co/kgs/sW1jZSd) . I will send parking instructions on an email nearer the time.
We aim to set off walking at 9.30am.
What to bring:
Hiking boots
Snacks/lunch (save yourself for the feast!)
Rucksack
Water (at least 1L)
Waterproofs
Warm layers
Hat and gloves
Walking poles (optional)
A small first aid kit with any personal medications
Clean indoor shoes for the crafting
Terrain:
Mostly trails and footpaths, some with uneven ground. Expect mud this time of year. Some stiles on route.
Toilets:
There are toilets at the clubhouse, which we can use after the hike, but none along the way on the walk.
Safety:
The whole point of the walk is to be an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone so we will keep to a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views, learning about the history and geology of the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns. Please inform me of any medical conditions prior to the walk.
Emily is a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader and is level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained.
Dogs:
Sorry, no dogs on this event.
Refund Policy:
Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so. I cannot be responsible for selling your ticket on.
And FINALLY:
This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or you can redeem your ticket on one other walk on a date suitable to you.
