About this Event
For June we’re delving into a sci-fi, solar punk tale that didn’t just imagine a different world but did it over 100 years ago!
We’ll be reading:
Sultana's Dream and Padmarag by Begum Rokeya
A visionary Bangladeshi Muslim feminist from 1905, who wrote classics that still feel miles ahead of the present.
In Sultana’s Dream, Rokeya gives us Ladyland, a place where women run society through science, cooperation, and sheer brilliance while men are safely tucked away indoors. It’s satire with teeth, a gleeful, subversive flipping of patriarchal and kyriarchal systems that exposes just how flimsy it all really is. It doesnt end there! this book is a double feature tha's followed by Padmarag which goes further, with women building their own institutions, nurturing solidarity, and refusing to accept the limits imposed on them by class, colonialism, or men’s fragile egos.
These works are acts of resistance. They remind us that feminist imagination is political power and that the future has always been shaped first by those bold enough to dream it.
So join us in June as we talk utopias, rebellion, sisterhood, and the radical audacity of believing that another world is possible. Bring your fire. Bring your questions.
