UTC-07:00Location
Manistee Ranch, 5127 W Northern Ave, Glendale AZ 85301 | Glendale, AZ
1864 saw the highest numbers of emigrants cross the Great Plains to escape the immense pressures of war, to seize the opportunity to find gold, or to start afresh. One family’s adventure has been preserved in a diary, now considered an American literary treasure.
Award-winning author Janelle Molony will present "Journey Back on the Old Oregon Trail" describing how her great-grandparents Dr. James and Sarah Rousseau of Iowa (and their celebrity traveling companions in Wyatt Earp's family) endured the journey with poison water holes, quicksand, robberies, the searing Mojave, and starvation near the snow-capped San Bernardino Mountains. Ms. Molony is a descendant of the Rousseau family.
Copies of Janelle Molony's books will be available for purchase and she will be happy to autograph them for you. For additional information please visit Ms. Molony's website: www.JanelleMolony.com
Refreshments will be served after the meeting and are generously provided by Homage Coffee House.
Please enter Manistee Ranch off of 51st Avenue and park in the parking lot or go through the vehicle gate and park near the house. Members are welcome to bring a guest. Non~members are also welcome to attend and learn about GAHS and historic Manistee Ranch.
