Topic: Revisioning the Greater DC Area Transit System Through A Youth Advocacy Lens
Speaker Thom De Boo is the creator of the YouTube channel Trains Are Awesome, a channel that has examined the ins and outs of public transportation systems around the world in over 34 countries for over 10 years. In almost all of his videos, he examines how each public transport system or rail system could be better. What is going well, and the weird quirks of the system. In recent years, he has lived here in the DC area, and has examined in many of his videos many aspects of the Greater DC Area Transit system. One thing that he sees missing a lot in the Transportation Improvements advocacy movement around DC is the Voices of Millennials and Gen Z transit activists. With that being said, he wants to provide some guidance on how the youth of this region can become more involved in transportation improvement advocacy. There is a school of thought in the transportation advocacy world that suggests that more youth engagement leads to more pressure and results when it comes to sustainable, reliable, and accessible public transportation.
When: Tuesday, February 10, 7:30 PM
Where: Silver Spring Civic Building at 1 Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring, MD
The Silver Spring Civic Center faces the ice rink/plaza and Ellsworth Avenue. It is an eight-minute walk north from the Silver Spring Metro Station. Several RideOn and WMATA bus routes stop nearby.
