FDI WHA79 Side Event: Oral Health in the Workplace

Work occupies more than one-third of adult life, with nearly 60% of the global working age population actively engaged in employment. Yet, oral health, an essential determinant of overall health, productivity, and economic growth, remains largely absent in workplace wellness and occupational health frameworks. This oversight carries a heavy price.

FDI World Dental Federation, with support from the Vision 2030 Industry Action Group, has developed a report providing evidence based and contextually relevant recommendations to mobilize the private sector and industry leaders to integrate oral health into workplace health strategies and wellness programmes. Anchored in the WHO Global Oral Health Action Plan (2023–2030), particularly Action 44, which calls on the private sector to “implement occupational oral health measures” and embed them within workplace health and insurance systems, this report provides a roadmap for translating global commitments into measurable outcomes through corporate leadership.

This FDI WHA79 side event, co-hosted with the government of the Republic of Ireland, will catalyze dialogue among policymakers, employers, especially oral healthcare industry actors, and health advocates on integrating oral health into occupational health and wellness agendas.
