Join us for a hands-on shooting workshop, where we’ll set up four dynamic shooting environments: each complete with three hard lights, grip gear, and captivating dancer models.

Together, we’ll explore how to create visually stunning, high-impact fashion images using these dramatic lighting techniques.

Fashion photography’s priority is to grab your attention: with the striking clothes, the models, the location, and especially the lighting.

All our past workshops have emphasized the use of Soft Light, replicating shade and window light – but this time, we’ll use drama of Hard Light, emulating the direct rays of the sun.

Hard light, with its high contrast and intense saturation, can create truly memorable images. Though it presents unique challenges, such as the hard edges of the shadows, the rapid drop-off in intensity, and the need for additional fill lights, the payoff is remarkable.

We’ll guide you through navigating these technical hurdles, empowering you to harness the full potential of hard light. Well worth the effort to make it work.

To ensure your success, we’ll kick off the workshop with a Thursday Zoom introductory session, where we’ll delve into the theory and best practices of working with hard light. And after the Sunday hands-on shooting workshop, we’ll reconvene for a Monday Zoom session focused on editing and post-processing techniques. This will help you seamlessly integrate the effects of hard light and achieve your desired aesthetic.

This hands-on photography workshop will take place at Red Fox Studio in Downtown Los Angeles, CA. The exact location will be provided to registered attendees upon registration for the workshop.

Instructor Bio: Former East Coast advertising photographer turned LA dance photography virtuoso. In his 30+ year adventure, George has traveled globally, capturing everything from corporate annual reports to magazine features. When not freezing dancers in mid-air with his signature lighting techniques (as featured in Digital Photo Pro Magazine: ), George champions photographers’ rights on the national and LA boards of the American Photographic Artists and leads the LA Digital Imaging Group. This photography guru has taught eager minds at Cornell, Boston College, UCLA Extension, and Samy’s Camera, and guided photo enthusiasts through exotic workshops in Bali and Oaxaca.
