Channel your inner creative heart through an immersive interlacing Weaving Workshop! A technique where objects are constructed using a sculptural approach, with materials interwoven in a seemingly 'random' pattern. This is a beautiful art form where it often creates areas of open space with in the structure, adding to its visual appeal. It allows for creative exploration of form and texture. You will have not just one type of material to weave with but a myriad of different materials! You will also learn three different types of random weaves.Where: Sea Scouts Hall, 9 Buller Street Port Macq

Guided by our local expert Indigenous weaver, Aunty Debbs from Cooeee Sistas Art Workshops, you’ll learn time-honoured techniques passed down through generations of nurturing hands. We'll be mixing ancient traditions with modern templates while shaping your very own unique creation — whether it be a platter, a bowl, an intriguing sculptural piece or whatever you want!
This will be a gathering of like-minded souls, woven together by community, creativity, and cultural respect for our environment and each other. You’ll weave with natural, locally harvested materials like flexible scrambling lily, palm inflorescence lomandra, bulrushes (cumbungi), giant flax, grapevines, palm sheaths, and more! Learn the art of foraging, harvesting, drying, and structuring your own unique creation while discovering weaving techniques that will have you seeing nature and your own gardens in a whole new way. You may have something you've been saving that you'd like to bring with you and add into your creation! Bring it along!
