Family-Friendly Fossil Collecting Adventure to IOWA
During the Devonian Period, this portion of Iowa was a shallow sea shelf and shelf-margin environment that bordered a deep-water basin in eastern Iowa and central Illinois. A major global extinction event immediately followed the time represented by these interesting Rockford deposits.
Our group will visit both a public collecting site as well as an additional location on private property. These collecting sites are located about a 2.5 to 3-hour drive south from the ZRS Fossils and Gifts store in Minneapolis. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the collecting sites. Complete fieldtrip details will be included in the itinerary e-mail you will receive AFTER your registration has been completed.
Our ZRS Paleontologist will provide on-site sample specimens, personal collecting guidance and individual identification of collected fossils to each family during the picnic lunch gathering at the first site. Each participating individual/family will also receive special handouts for identification of the fossils collected.
Be sure to pack your camera, a picnic lunch and get ready to have fun on this interesting, educational and inspiring adventure for young and old!
