Family Album: Special Screening with Samara Pearce

Join us for a special screening of the Ukrainian documentary “Family Album” (dir. Maryna Tkachuk) followed by a conversation with the film’s main protagonist, Samara Pearce.

The film tells the story of British photographer and humanitarian volunteer Samara Pearce, whose great-grandfather, Austrian engineer Alexander Wienerberger, secretly photographed the Holodomor — the man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine in 1932–1933. His photographs became some of the most important visual evidence of the genocide.

Nearly 90 years later, Samara travels to Ukraine to reflect on her family history and to understand how the trauma of the Holodomor connects to today’s Russian war against Ukraine.

This event is an opportunity to learn more about Ukrainian history, memory, identity, and resilience through cinema and personal testimony.

The film will be screened in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
