Fall Prevention & Balance Screening

PT Month theme for this year is Fall Prevention. Falls are the number one cause of accidental death and catastrophic injuries in adults over the age of 60. Annual screenings for balance can identify those individuals at high risk for falls as well as adults who may not yet be aware of their balance impairments. Participants would be scheduled in 15-minute increments and undergo a series of balance tests as well as a verbal review of any vision deficits, neuropathy, sleeping habits, home hazards and prescription medications to identify those at risk. Participants would then receive recommendations on follow up with their doctor, physical therapy, vision exam, etc.
