We're thrilled to have Ezra LeBank back from LA for a 2-day Contact Improv workshop in Nevada City!FALL/FLOAT/FLY: flirting with gravity from the earth to the sky
Is it possible to fly and fall without noticing much? Can momentum guide us above and along each other? In this workshop, we dive into these questions and explore the boundless possibilities of falling, floating, and flying in Contact Improvisation practice.
We'll start with Dirt Work, engaging in physical training that expands, integrates, and readies our bodies in conversation with gravity and the earth. This grounding practice will prepare us for Cloud Tectonics, where we'll reframe our experiences of lift, loft, and drift. Finally, we will build above, around, and beyond these concepts to move toward a dancing space that cherishes transparency and presence in playful dancing scores.
Through detailed and buoyant exercises, we will move towards a dancing experience rich with abundant and radically free choice-making in vertical and spherical space. Together, we'll co-create a dance that thrives on simultaneous independence and communion while in fall, float, and flight.
This evolving material builds on years of research and collaboration, with the aim to engage/challenge those familiar with Cloud Tectonics, and be accessible to everyone with some previous CI experience. Come prepared to learn, sweat, and play.
*Some previous CI experience is assumed.
