Fair Housing Basics Training
About this Event
The Fair Housing Act is a federal law that protects housing consumers from discrimination based on 7 protected characteristics. Anyone who works in a field that intersects with housing, works with clients who are experiencing housing instability, or any person who wishes to understand their own rights better, would benefit from this workshop.
This 2-hour, in-person training will provide an introduction to the federal Fair Housing Act - what is it, who is protected, who is exempt, what are the major regulations, and more. The protections will be broken down into easy-to-understand concepts and exemplified with real world situations and case law.
Topics to be discussed include: the protected characteristics, exemptions, examples of housing discrimination, harassment in housing, disability-specific protections, and more.
This training is put on in partnership with the City of Greenwood.
