Summary: Join us at the Derby Historical Museum to hear from Marla Day, current curator of K-State Historic Costume and Textile Museum in Manhattan. She will speak on the best ways to preserve different fabrics (uniforms, quilts, clothing from the early 1900s).
More information:
Many of the items we cherish the most are made of cloth. Whether it’s Grandma’s quilt, a cloth doll, or perhaps a wedding dress, hat, or other item of clothing, the way we store it and care for it may determine how long it can be preserved. And different types of cloth may require specific treatment to maintain its current condition.
If you have anything made of cloth that you want to preserve for future generations, you need to attend a special event at Derby Historical Museum, 710 E. Market, on July 18, starting at 11:00 am. Admission is free. Cloth items that are convenient to carry may be brought to the session for specific questioning.
Marla Day, curator of the Historic Costume and Textile Museum at Kansas State University in Manhattan, will be on hand to answer questions and share tips about the best ways to preserve different fabrics. This informative presentation will address numerous situations and types of cloth.
