Verbatim theatre uses the spoken words of real people to document life, capturing and platforming testimony in a valid, representative way. Work made using this process is fresh, of-the-moment and a tool to really say something about modern life.
This course will introduce participants to the form, from storytelling skills and interview technique, to turning collected content into characters, monologues and scenes. Devising from a verbatim starting point will also be explored, and some time will be spent drawing from our personal thoughts and memories to generate content, guided by the group’s interests. The art of embodying real people onstage will also be covered.
Verbatim is such an exciting form and this course will guide participants through the tips and tricks to creating a vibrant piece of powerful performance.
