Exploring Traditional Method Sparkling Wine
About this Event
Champagne refers both to the renowned wine region in northern France and to the wine produced there. To bear the name Champagne, a wine must be made from permitted grape varieties grown within the region’s defined boundaries and crafted according to the traditional method.
The traditional method, however, is practiced around the world. While these wines cannot legally be called Champagne, they offer an exciting opportunity to experience the technique through different grapes, climates, and winemaking philosophies. Freed from Champagne’s strict varietal rules, producers can showcase distinctive regional character and expand the range of flavors possible in traditionally made sparkling wine.
Join us as we travel from Italy to Spain, Austria, Germany, and finally back to France, beyond the borders of Champagne. Along the way, we’ll discover how place, grape variety, and the winemaker’s hand shape a remarkable diversity of sparkling wines.
The wines will be served alongside a spread of seasonal bites.
