About this Event

Most of modern yoga is based on Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras - an ancient text of 196 sutras, or threads, written thousands of years ago. It is a classical ancient Indian treatise on the practice of Yoga. It is a step-by-step guide for your spiritual journey of remembering who you really are, and becoming enlightened.

I was eager to learn more about these sutras (threads of wisdom) when I first started yoga - but I soon discovered when I read the Yoga Sutras early on that this would be a lifetime study. After exhaustive study over many years, digging deep into various commentaries and scholarly texts I’m ready to invite you into this exploration. We will discover how the sutras apply to our modern yoga practice and contemporary lives.

The Yoga Sutras are divided into four chapters or books. In this exploration, we will start at the beginning and work our way through each sutra exploring meaning and practical application in our lives and yoga practice. Many of the sutras can be studied in groupings or threads of interrelated principles, so we will break down this work into small manageable chunks. Some weeks we will be discussing one sutra while other times exploring several.

I would be honored to share this exploration with yoga students and teachers, who are interested in unpacking this ancient wisdom.

Each session will include a presentation of one or more yoga sutras, a discussion, and a wrap-up with a meditation.
