Exploring Community-Driven Solutions to Health Inequities

George Washington University's Institute for Racial, Ethnic and Socioeconomic Equity (Equity Institute) and the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) are partnering to host a convening on March 18, from 12–3 PM, focused on community-driven solutions to systemic health inequities. Informed by NAM’s forthcoming special publication, "Systems’ Impact on Historically and Currently Marginalized Populations", this event will foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and explore actionable strategies for change.

The convening will feature three sessions:

🔹 Fireside Chat: Authors of the special publication will discuss how systemic inequities shape health outcomes and introduce systems thinking as a tool for transformative change.

🔹 Applying Systems Thinking for Systems Change: Participants will learn to apply systems thinking in a real world context by identifying systemic barriers that perpetuate place-based social and health inequities. This hands-on session will foster collaboration in co-developing real-world solutions. Key insights will be captured through live graphic recording and discussion.

🔹 Translating Research to Action: Closing the nation's ever growing health and wealth gap requires translation of research into action. In this lively discussion with elected leaders, foundations, researchers and community leaders we will share concrete strategies for building systems, policies and practice aimed at driving meaningful and measurable change.

With a focus on interactive discussions, advocacy tools, and community-driven solutions, this convening provides a comprehensive approach to understanding and addressing long-standing systems driven inequities.
