About this Event
Take a stroll down Calgary's own music district, the Music Mile, stretching from The King Eddy in the east Village, sadly to the former home of the Blues Can. Your tour host will be Bob Chartier, one of the founders of the Mile with Meg Van Rosendaal and often called the Mayor of the Music Mile. The walk will be from the place where music first came to Calgary to the spot where we now recognize the fragility of live music. Music stories, history and the importance of music in our well being, will be themes. There may even be a bit of busking at the end, in the park, if the mayor remember his guitar.
WALK NOTES: Uneven terrain, busy sidewalks.
MEETING SPOT: Front doors of the Confluence, 750 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 5E1
WALK LEADER: Bob Chartier, a true late bloomer, started singing in the sixties, his age, not the famous decade. He found his buried voice at age 60 and for the past dozen years he sings every day, has written over 200 songs and has performed in venues such as the Ness Creek Bluegrass and Old Tyme Festival and the Water Valley Music Festival. He has done well in both the ATB songwriters and the Ship and Anchor songwriter contests (came in fourth in 2019). He was one of the founders of the Music Mile project that saw a music district formed in the heart of Calgary (musicmile.ca).
