Explore Color Harmony with Simple Logic

You will never see colors the same way after this workshop!

In this class we will create many small paintings using the same subject reference to explore how to create color harmonies in different combinations. The slideshow presentations and painting demos will help you learn to harmonize colors in a more logical and simplified way. Along the way we’ll expand your color ranges into previously unexplored territories.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

· Mix colors using a limited color palette to get a wider range of shades of muted and saturated colors;

· Add harmonizing colors while avoiding clashing colors;

· Use simple color wheel logic to explore color combinations;

· Create color studies to explore color combination possibilities;

· Apply basic rules of color and emotions.

All color mediums are welcome in this class. The painting demos will be done in acrylic.

Wayne Jiang is a Portland-based realist acrylic painter. Combining the aesthetic of 17th century Baroque paintings and the composition of modern documentary photography, his works have been described as the contemporary interpretations of Vermeer and Hopper. His work has been widely exhibited in museums and galleries such as The Morris Graves Museum of Art, Triton Museum, Crocker Museum, Elliot Fouts Gallery, Solomon Dubnick Gallery, and Portland Art Museum Rental and Sales Gallery. As an art educator, Wayne specializes in teaching color exploration and acrylic painting.

His students are artists with diverse skill levels: from someone who has never painted to professional artists who want to refine their color and painting technique. Wayne’s deep interest in art history is incorporated in both his paintings and how he teaches.
