Experience Design Weekend Intensive - New York
About this Event
Join Odyssey Works at the School of Visual Arts in New York!
Dive deep into the complete curriculum of Odyssey Works' intimate and inspiring process on how to create transformative experiences. This class combines the content of our core offerings of empathy & experience design, diagramming, and making meaning workshops, into one intensive that radically changes the way you think about making anything you make.
On day 1 we will learn the basics of experience design. On day 2 we will create a powerful experience for one other attendee in the class. The weekend will be intense, perspective-altering, deeply personal, and lots of fun.
The workshop is based on the work of Odyssey Works, a performance company that creates weekend-long experiences for one person audiences.
Who This Is For
This intensive is for designers, artists, producers, educators, and makers who want to build more intentional, human-centered experiences. No prior experience design background required.
What You Will Learn
Empathy and Experience Design
How to center an audience member so deeply that the experience reshapes them.
Diagramming
How to map the architecture of an experience before you build it.
Making Meaning
How to move people — not just entertain them.
The Method
For the past 25 years, artist collective and educational institution Odyssey Works has been creating transformative experiences for small audiences. This intensive provides a behind-the-curtain perspective into their groundbreaking signature design process that has made them a household name in the immersive and experiential scene.
“The legacy of their work has been an undercurrent in the age of experiential theatre.... In the past twenty years, odds are, you have been touched by their methods. It is no understatement to say that things would not be the same if Odyssey Works did not exist.”— Noah Nelson, No Proscenium founder and World Experience Organization co-founder
This will be held IN PERSON ONLY in New York City. Light breakfast provided both days. 10am - 5pm both days.
Workshop will be led by Odyssey Works Director Abraham Burickson and Odyssey Works Assistant Director Brooke Viegut

The Odyssey Works Experience Design Intensive I did in NYC last summer was probably the most compact, relevant, valuable professional development training I've done in my life (and I've done quite a few). -Katie Green
