Kimball Arts Center invites you to an opening reception for our two new exhibitions: Returning To Wonder and All Sketches Wish to Be Real. Enter a night of awe and art with refreshments, creative activities, and a first look at the new exhibitions.Returning To Wonder transforms the natural world into a stage for curiosity, joy, and reverence. The exhibition brings together contemporary artists whose works span the microscopic to the cosmic, artists who invite viewers to experience natural phenomena anew. Across media including photography, painting, installation, sculpture, and light-based work, Returning to Wonder presents windows into new ways of perceiving our environment. Open the portals of reverence and imagination to look more closely, listen more deeply, and recognize the living world not as separate from us, but as a shared source of wonder.
All Sketches Wish to Be Real draws inspiration from a stanza in Tomas Tranströmer’s poem “The Blue House”, which speaks to the alternate lives and futures that remain just out of reach. Built around hand-printed cyanotype compositions of raptors—keystone species and ancestral messengers—the project invites viewers into a quietly altered reality: one where reciprocity with the nonhuman world is not a loss or a dream, but a vivid presence.
