About this Event
Please join us for the opening night of Snow and Rain Shall Pass by Swedish Photographer Karin Alfredsson, featuring welcoming remarks from Urban Ahlin, Ambassador of Sweden to the United States, and a moderated conversation with Karin Alfredsson and Magnus af Petersens, Curator at the Nobel Prize Museum.
About Snow and Rain Shall Pass
Karin Alfredsson was born in Jämtland, Sweden, and has worked as a photographer in Stockholm since 1989. Through her photography, Alfredsson seeks out landscapes that few humans have visited, and even fewer have left their mark on: forests, mountains, and waterways. Her photographs are from northern Scandinavia, places like the Dyatlov Pass, Buvriejaverie, and the Arctic region, but Alfredsson prefers not to title them with specific names. They "just are.”
Humans appear insignificant, a mere parenthesis, in her images. The photographs may look timeless but knowing that the landscapes may soon be gone adds sadness to their stark beauty.
The exhibition at the Embassy of Sweden includes works from the series Disappearing Landscapes and The Arctic Ocean: A Journey to the North Pole.
Welcome!
