Improvisers often enter scenes with tunnel vision; they’re searching for what the scene is about and when they find it, they grab it and make it the one and only thing. Their approach is: One thing is important, and everything else is unimportant.
The real world is filled with important things whose importance does not eliminate what surrounds them. For a more expansive improv experience, we need to find the details and specifics of a scene, and take interest in all of them. When one of those elements cries out for more urgency our challenge is to honor that while holding on to all the other parts of the reality that we’ve created.
In this two day intensive, we’ll explore how to make our scenes richer and our narratives more surprising. We’ll lean into the tangible, observable aspects of the scene; all the ordinary things that have importance.
We have community standards, a conflict process, and a COVID prevention policy in place. Agreement/acceptance of these policies is required to participate in BATS classes. Please use the links above to access and read these policies, and check the boxes during registration to indicate your agreement/confirmation.
