Topic: “TN Social Work Licensure Law Rules & Regulations"

3.0 CEUs in Ethics

This workshop will provide information and clarity regarding the path for advanced licensure in the state of Tennessee. A thorough review of the current rules will help participants understand the requirements and the eligibility for advanced licensure as a clinical or advanced generalist social worker. Case scenarios will help participants understand how to conceptualize and document accurately the social work experience. Clarification will also be given regarding the role of the supervisor and how to accurately accumulate supervision hours and contact hours.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will receive a comprehensive overview of the current TN Rules and Regulations of the TN Board of Social Worker Licensure
  2. Participants will learn more about the relationship between social work ethics and social work licensure including how the NASW Code of Ethics is incorporated into the Rules and Regulations.
  3. Participants will gain insight into the specific requirements for obtaining advanced licensure as a clinical or advanced practice social worker.
  4. Participants will gain understanding of the definitions of clinical and advanced generalist social work practice.

2.Participants will be able to identify factors influencing grief and related disorders for families and the factors that impact healthcare professionals.

3. Participants will be able to identify benefits and ethical considerations when incorporating movement into the treatment of grief and related mental health issues.

Speaker: Paula D. Foster, MSW, LCSW

After receiving her Master’s degree from Hunter College School of Social Work in NYC, Paula began working in the field of HIV/AIDS and homelessness in 1990, continuing this work after moving to Nashville in 2001 as the Director of Emotional & Practical Support for Nashville CARES. She has served as a Co-chair of the Ryan White Part A Planning Council for the Metro-Nashville Transitional Grant Area, providing input regarding the funding of services to the HIV/AIDS service community. Paula has been an adjunct instructor in the Social Work department at Tennessee State University and an adjunct instructor and field liaison for the University of Tennessee’s School of Social Work, Nashville campus. She was a practicing faculty member at Vanderbilt’s School of Nursing, for the Vanderbilt Program in Inter-professional Learning and taught a Social Services Competency Based Training at TSU’s Center for Excellence in Learning Sciences. Paula was the Executive Director of the Tennessee Conference on Social Welfare (TCSW), a statewide advocacy and training organization and in 2020 she moved on to be the Executive Director of Open Table Nashville providing outreach and housing advocacy for Nashville’s most vulnerable citizens. Paula’s experience spans a variety of service areas including advocacy, healthcare, mental healthcare, substance abuse, hospice and homelessness. She is a past President of the Board of Directors for NASW-TN and served as the Region VII Representative to the national board of directors of the National Association of Social Workers in Washington, DC. Paula was a trainer with the HIV/AIDS Spectrum Project of NASW and has developed extensive educational workshops for social workers throughout the state of Tennessee. In 2008, Paula was the co-chair of the NASW-TN Multilevel Licensure Task Force, helping to rewrite Tennessee’s social work licensing laws and instrumental in drafting the rules and regulations of the board. In 2011, she was honored as NASW-TN’s Social Worker of the Year. Paula has served on several non-profit boards including Saddle Up!, the TN Disability Coalition, the Women’s Political Collaborative, Nashville Pride and was a mayoral appointment to the Metropolitan Nashville Homelessness Commission in 2016. The commission merged with the HUD mandated Nashville Continuum of Care in 2018, becoming the Nashville Davidson County Continuum of Care Homelessness Planning Council where she served as chair of the council for two consecutive years. In 2023, Paula returned to Nashville CARES as the Advocacy & Special Project Coordinator.


Speaker: Jennifer Fox, MSW, LCSW

Jennifer Fox is a compassionate and approachable Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 18 years of experience supporting individuals across the lifespan, with a primary focus on adults. She specializes in grief, anxiety, and ADHD, offering a safe, nonjudgmental space for clients to explore the full spectrum of their emotional experiences.

Jennifer’s therapeutic style is calm, relaxed, and deeply human. She brings a gentle presence to her sessions, encouraging openness through empathy, humor, and authentic connection. Whether holding space for laughter, tears, or darker emotions, she meets each person with curiosity and care. As she often reflects, quoting Brené Brown, “We don’t have to do it all alone. We were never meant to.”

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Jennifer contributed to research during her master’s program and earned multiple honors for her work, including graduating with highest distinction, receiving the Mary Ward Lewis Prize, and being named Social Worker of the Year by the Tennessee Society of Healthcare Social Workers.

Outside of her professional life, Jennifer is an avid reader, passionate crafter, and enthusiastic traveler who enjoys exploring the world with her friends and family.

  1. Is lunch included? Yes lunch is included with all tickets. A continental breakfast and snacks are also included. Please see menu for details.
  2. Can I get partial contact hour credit for attending part of the sessions? No, only full day attendance is accepted to receive your contact hour certificate. Certificates will be handed out at the end of the day.
  3. Is there a virtual option? No we are only offering this conference in person at Lighthouse Knoxville
  4. Will the event be recorded? No
  5. My organization is a vendor can I get in with my company? Each Sponsor and Vendor must provide name and email address for their eligible representative in order for them to receive a certificate for contact hours. Sponsor level has 2 eligible representative spots and Vendor level has only 1 eligible representative spots. If your name and email were not provided you must purchase a ticket to receive your certificate for contact hours.
  6. When will contact hour certificates be provided? Minutes after the conclusion of the conference you will receive an e-mail (to the email you register with Eventbrite) with the attestation/survey link. Once you complete the attestation/survey you will automatically be sent a certificate of completion.
