Essential Cinema: Children of Men (20th Anniversary)

Alfonso Cuaron's dystopian masterpiece returns to the big screen for its 20th anniversary
About this Event

In 2027, two decades of global infertility have left humanity facing extinction. Britain has become a police state, and a disillusioned bureaucrat named Theo (Clive Owen) is drawn into a desperate mission to protect the first pregnant woman in eighteen years.

Stellar Cast-

The film features career-defining performances from Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Clare-Hope Ashitey.

Groundbreaking Cinematography-

Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki's legendary long takes place you directly inside the chaos. The film is renowned for its unbroken tracking shots, including a harrowing refugee camp sequence and an unforgettable car ambush, creating a documentary-like immediacy rarely achieved in cinema.

A Film Ahead of Its Time-

Roger Ebert gave it a perfect score, and 20 years later, its themes of nationalism, xenophobia, and societal collapse feel more prescient than ever.
