Bach and Handel transform the harpsichord into an instrument of dazzling imagination. Bach’s exuberant D-major Toccata and monumental English Suite in A minor meet the operatic lyricism and contrapuntal brilliance of Handel’s F-major Suite. A final Chaconne brings the recital to a theatrical close, its unfolding variations recalling the grand dances that once crowned an act on the eighteenth-century stage.
