About this Event
Explore the way animals and plants prepare for a shift in seasons. How are the birds and mammals and reptiles behaving differently? In what ways do they need to be ready for winter? Bring the whole family to walk the gardens and see how the nuts and berries are beginning to ripen as critters stockpile food stores. Notice how many insects cocoon, lay eggs or enter the last phases of their lifecycle. Migratory bird species bulk up on carbohydrates to fuel the long journey to their wintering grounds. Reptiles begin to dig down into the mud. And the trees begin to change colors. Kids can ask questions, see real examples of these critters and behaviors up close in nature, and learn to appreciate the natural world around them.
About the Teacher
Catherine Fisher had the good fortune to grow up in a time and place where a free-ranging childhood was the norm, instilling in her a love of the outdoors and natural history. For nearly forty years, she has taught nature studies at Mast Way School in Lee; led nature walks as part of the Lee Library’s children’s program; served on the Lee Conservation Commission. She has led nature walks for all ages - from toddlers to grandparents.
