About this Event

The Environmental and Climate Justice Center welcomes students, faculty, staff, and friends to celebrate Earth Day with environmental justice (EJ) pioneer Charles Lee and Carlton Waterhouse, Director of the Environmental and Climate Justice Center and Professor of Law at Howard University School of Law.

Widely recognized as a founder of the EJ movement, Charles Lee authored the landmark 1987 report Toxic Wastes and Race in the United States and organized the 1991 First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit. His decades of advocacy have shaped federal policy, revitalized communities, and brought national attention to environmental racism. This 2026, we will be welcoming in the 35th anniversary of the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit.

Please join this Earth Day program on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 12:00 pm ET. The program will feature a presentation with Charles Lee and a fireside chat with Professor Carlton Waterhouse. There will be an opportunity for an audience Q&A with Charles Lee and Professor Carlton Waterhouse.

Light refreshments will be provided. Please register for this event through Eventbrite.
