Enigma Society- Mansions of Madness

🗝️ Enigma Society
The Enigma Society is CER's home for puzzles, mysteries, roleplaying, and creative problem-solving. Gatherings challenge players to think, investigate, communicate, and improvise through activities such as escape rooms, puzzle nights, murder mysteries, tabletop scenarios, riddles, roleplaying exercises, and other unusual challenges.
Not every problem in LARP can, or should, be solved with a sword. The Enigma Society gives players a chance to exercise the social, investigative, and problem-solving skills that make those moments just as exciting as combat. No particular level of LARP or puzzle experience is expected; come prepared to participate, collaborate, and occasionally be completely stumped.
🗝️ What Are We Playing?
For our first gathering of the Enigma Society, we'll be playing Mansions of Madness, a cooperative mystery and horror game steeped in the Lovecraftian Cthulhu Mythos.
Players take on the roles of investigators exploring strange locations, uncovering clues, solving puzzles, and piecing together a mystery while confronting things humanity was perhaps better off never discovering.
This makes Mansions of Madness an especially fitting first outing for the Enigma Society, and an appropriate transition out of our All Hallows' Eve season.
The works of H.P. Lovecraft and the broader Cthulhu Mythos heavily influence Eldritch horror throughout Medius. That influence can be seen in creatures such as our Charged Primaevals, as well as the recurring ideas of ancient entities, forbidden knowledge, incomprehensible forces, and the consequences of encountering things that exist far beyond mortal understanding.
As you play, pay attention to how the game uses investigation, uncertainty, environmental storytelling, forbidden knowledge, and mounting dread. These are all elements that influence how we approach Eldritch horror within CER.
It is also exactly the sort of experience the Enigma Society was created for. You'll need to investigate, communicate, solve problems, manage limited information, and make decisions together under pressure.
No experience with Mansions of Madness is necessary. We'll teach everyone what they need to know before we begin.
Bring your curiosity, work together, and try not to lose your mind.
