About this Event

EnergyNet: The future of the electric grid is here

Join us in-person at a free SF Climate Week event at Bakar BioEnginuity Hub (one block from UC Berkeley campus) for presentations and Q&A about EnergyNet and learn how this new technology is a comprehensive solution for the security and reliability challenges facing our current electric grid.

Hosted by Berkeley Climate Change Network, event speakers include current and recently graduated UC Berkeley students, Jonas Birgersson of ViaEuropa (a leader in developing EnergyNet), and Thomas Pogue of University of the Pacific.

There will be time during and after the presentations for discussion / Q&A.

Background:

While the grid is a marvel, and the benefits it has provided the world are incredible, it’s also 100+ year-old technology that was first conceived when the Wright Brothers were preparing to take their first flight. It’s firmly rooted in the past, often relying on analog controls, and constrained in significant ways with how it can be modernized for our digital age.

EnergyNet is a new grid architecture that can be built in paralell to the current grid; smart, networked microgrids that communicate with each other over an open source, open standard protocol named Energy Protocol (EP). Like the Internet Protocol (IP) does for data, the EP allows for a new level of control, flexibility, and interoperability for energy distribution. Think about a world without blackouts, the ability to unlock unlimited renewable generation without affecting the stability of the distribution network, a decentralized system that cannot be taken offline by a single point of failure, and so much more. Join us for an exciting and informative morning!
