Energy Recovery Project Open House & Tours

Capital Region Water and UGI Energy Services invite you to a special "Sneak Peek" Open House to celebrate a major milestone in our sustainability journey: the Energy Recovery Improvements Project.

This $27 million infrastructure project represents the countdown to the official "go-live" activation of systems that will transform how we manage local resources. By upgrading equipment originally installed in 1984, we are now able to capture biogas produced during the wastewater treatment process and refine it into Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). This RNG is then injected directly into the local pipeline to provide a sustainable energy source while creating new non-rate revenue for our community.

• 11:00 AM – Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony: Witness the formal celebration of this technical milestone alongside local officials and project partners.
• 11:30 AM – Guided Energy Recovery Tours: Get a firsthand look at the newly upgraded systems and the science behind renewable energy production before the facility enters full service.
• 12:30 PM – Full Facility Tour (Session 1): Join our experts for a comprehensive guided tour of the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.
• 1:30 PM – Full Facility Tour (Session 2): A second opportunity for a comprehensive guided tour of our facility and its daily operations.
• Informational Displays: Learn about environmental stewardship, the RNG process, and how this project strengthens critical facility reliability.

• Attendance: The open house is free and open to the public; however, advance registration is required for facility tours to help us manage capacity.
• Location: Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility (AWTF), 1662 S. Cameron Street, Harrisburg, PA 17104.
• Parking: Free on-site parking is available at the facility, with staff available to direct traffic.
• What to Wear: For your safety during guided tours, we recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes.
