📅 THE DETAILS
The Event: The Love Quest Foundation’s Documentary Screening and Q&A with Roxanne Shanté (In partnership with The Garden House)
The Dialogue: Youth Voices, Shared Visions
Date: Monday, July 27, 2026
Time: 12:00 PM
Location: TBA with RSVP (Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard)
Featuring: A curated screening of how one woman transformed personal adversity into a lifelong mission of service, education, and generational impact.
🤎 WHY THIS PARTNERSHIP MATTERS
HBCU Legacy Week has always stood on the pillars of Engagement, Empowerment, and Sustainability. By partnering with The Love Quest Foundation, we are extending those pillars directly to the next generation of leaders—our rising high school students.
✨ The Garden House exemplifies creating communities designed to inspire connection and personal growth while creating unforgettable memories—it’s where “Women can gather, grow, and flourish” in a safe space. SuGinia Jones, founder of The Garden House, is an HBCU Alum and Psychologist for over two decades. She understands exactly how important it is for women to step away from the demands of everyday life, invest in themselves, and embrace their personal evolution.
🎥 Cultivating the Pipeline: The Love Quest Foundation gives in-school and out-of-school youth hands-on work experience in audiovisual production for their annual awareness and prevention campaigns. These are the same creative skills we celebrate in our Voices Preserved and Vinyl Vineyard series! By showcasing their work, we bridge the gap between current HBCU excellence and the future creators of the BIPOC community.
🧠 Mental Health & Advocacy: The Love Quest Foundation’s mission to advocate for individuals impacted by intimate partner violence deeply aligns with Legacy Week's commitment to wellness. This screening isn't just about art; it’s about using storytelling as a tool for healing, confidence-building, and changing harmful narratives. MyTherapy Cards will also be a featured resource shared with youth participants.
🎉 Party with a Purpose: While we celebrate the historic 10th anniversary of the Legacy Week on the Vineyard tradition, we are being intentional about our future. Supporting The Love Quest Foundation means investing in the social, emotional, psychological, and physical education of youth who will one day walk the campuses of our storied institutions.
🎬 WHAT TO EXPECT
Attendees will view the debut private screening ahead of its official 2027 film festival run! We are proud to highlight that executive producers of the documentary include renowned HBCU alumni Valeisha Butterfield of SEED Media and LaMonique Hamilton of Centre Creative.
Following the screening, we will hold a brief "Legacy & Love" talkback featuring the legendary Roxanne Shanté, discussing how we can continue to protect and empower youth and allies through culturally relevant education, professional media training, and lived experience.
"Our campaigns bring local youth together to work on projects that build confidence and teach life skills as they prepare for adulthood. Seeing our work showcased on the Vineyard allows our teens to see the results of relationship capital and be embraced by the vast community waiting to support them at the HBCU level." > — Josayne Anderson-Tejera, Founder, The Love Quest Foundation
