Meet the panelists

Jessica West

Jessica West is a CIGI senior fellow and a senior researcher at Project Ploughshares, a Canadian peace and security research institute, where she focuses on technology, security and governance in outer space.

Kurtis H. Simpson

Kurtis H. Simpson currently serves as a special advisor for Indo-Pacific affairs within the Department of National Defence. As a senior defence scientist, he is a specialist on China and has extensive expertise in Asian security issues, global affairs, and transnational threats and terrorism.

Alex Maierean

Alex Maierean is co-founder and CEO of Phantom Photonics Inc., a technology company developing quantum sensors for dual use applications. The startup was a spin out from her graduate studies at the University of Waterloo, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in mathematics, specializing in quantum information.

Robyn Warrier

Robyn Warrier is program manager for COVE’s NATO DIANA Accelerator Program, overseeing COVE’s dual-use initiatives. In this role, Robyn supports companies across the NATO alliance in developing and commercializing technologies for both civilian and defence applications. Robyn builds strategic partnerships with prime contractors, government stakeholders, and the broader business community, bridging the gap between innovators with groundbreaking ideas and end users tackling complex challenges.

As a previous dual-use founder with a strong background in entrepreneurship, leadership, product and business development, Robyn brings a unique perspective to DIANA innovators. She holds an advanced diploma in public relations from Nova Scotia Community College and a diploma in integrated marketing from St. Lawrence College.
