About this Event

Join Becky Sedman BVSc (Hons) MRCVS, Lead Night Hospital Clinician at Swift Referrals, for an informative CPD session focused on the use of thoracic ultrasound techniques in emergency and critical care settings.

Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) scans are an emergency clinician's favorite tool - fast to perform, non-invasive and no sedation required! Designed for first opinion veterinary surgeons, this session will explore the principles and practical application of thoracic ultrasound in small animal patients, and how this tool can be used to differentiate pulmonary oedema from pneumonic changes, pericardial or pleural effusions and how to diagnose a pneumothorax without the need for radiographs.

We will briefly cover the different POCUS techniques used; including Vet BLUE and TFAST, and also how to obtain reasonable echo views to calculate the LA:Ao ratio and fractional shortening (FS).

Suitable for veterinary surgeons looking to develop their emergency imaging skills and enhance their approach to acute thoracic cases in practice.
