Dia de los Muertos at The Grief Garden
About this Event
Día de los Muertos is a Mexican tradition that honours the lives of those who have died through stories, colour, food, flowers and remembrance. In this welcoming workshop, we'll explore the meaning and traditions behind the celebration before coming together to create a shared ofrenda (altar), offering a space to remember the people we miss and celebrate the love that continues after loss.
You're invited to bring a photograph or small memento of someone you'd like to remember, although this is entirely optional. Together we'll reflect on the importance of ritual, creativity and community, discovering how traditions from different cultures can offer meaningful ways to live alongside grief.
This project is part of the Seasons of Culture Programme funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Council through the Leeds Cultural Investment Programme.
Getting here
If driving: Please park at Wood Hall Hotel (LS22 4JA) and walk to the Walled Garden. The walk takes less than five minutes. At one point it may feel as though you're walking through private gardens, but please be assured this is a public footpath. Directions can be found here.
If using public transport: The closest bus stop is Harewood Road, served by the X99 bus from Leeds to Wetherby. From there it is a 15-20 minute walk - follow the path across the road from the bus stop through some fields, along and across the River Wharfe.
