Join us for a full day of workshops followed by an evening concert, or simply come to the performance and experience the music brought to life by some of the UK's leading Brazilian artists.
Em Sintonia celebrates cultural exchange through collaboration, bringing together UK-based and Brazilian artists while supporting learning, participation and community music-making.
Em Sintonia is a day-long celebration of Brazilian music, bringing together movement, rhythm, language, ensemble playing and live performance in an immersive experience that invites audiences to discover one of the world's richest musical traditions. Taking place at ICMP London, the event is designed to connect people through participation, celebrating Brazilian music not simply as a repertoire to learn, but as a living culture where rhythm, storytelling, dance and community are inseparable.
The day begins with an open Movement & Rhythm Workshop, led by award-winning samba dancer Iuli Caroline alongside renowned Brazilian drummer and educator Marcinho Pereira. Open to everyone, regardless of musical experience, this joyful session explores how movement and rhythm are deeply connected in Brazilian culture, encouraging participants to experience music physically before even picking up an instrument.

In the afternoon, the focus shifts towards musicians wishing to deepen their understanding of Brazilian music in a practical ensemble setting. Instrumentalists will work in small groups led by acclaimed Brazilian musicians Marcinho Pereira and Matheus Nova and the rest of their team, exploring groove, rhythmic language, accompaniment, phrasing, improvisation and ensemble interaction across a range of Brazilian styles. Vocalists will join celebrated Brazilian singer Carolina Lelis (Da Lata) in a dedicated workshop exploring Portuguese pronunciation, stylistic interpretation, phrasing, expression and the unique feel and storytelling of Brazilian repertoire.

The evening concert brings the day's themes to life, demonstrating how the musical ideas explored in the workshops evolve into professional artistic performance. Opening the concert is Djangada, whose intimate instrumental sound celebrates the beauty and rhythmic sophistication of Brazilian music. They are followed by Mosaico, the collaborative project of vocalist Francesca Confortini and pianist, composer and arranger Ryan Mackenzie, whose music explores the meeting point between Brazilian traditions, jazz improvisation and orchestral colour. Featuring a special dance performance by Iuli Caroline, the concert becomes the natural culmination of the day's journey—bringing together rhythm, movement and music in a celebration of Brazilian culture experienced through both participation and performance.

Em Sintonia is led by vocalist, educator and ICMP Vocal Leader Francesca Confortini, whose work bridges professional performance and higher music education, alongside renowned composer, arranger and pianist Ryan Mackenzie, whose passion for Brazilian music and orchestral writing lies at the heart of the Mosaico project. Together, they have created a programme that aims to broaden access to Brazilian music within UK music education while celebrating its cultural depth and authenticity. The project is coordinated by Hannah Hutton, Programme Manager at Kings Place, whose extensive experience in producing large-scale artistic and educational programmes has helped shape the event into a day of learning, collaboration and cultural exchange.
Throughout the day, participants are encouraged to meet, collaborate and make music together. Whether you're attending alone or with friends, Em Sintonia is designed to create new musical connections across communities and disciplines.
