Victorian Visionary
American artist Elliott Daingerfield — considered one of North Carolina’s most prolific artists remains a virtual unknown to many in North Carolina and the United States.
This presentation will shed light on his career as an artist and his varied subject matter from his time in New York in 1880 to fulfill his dream of becoming an artist and setting up his first studio in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
Daingerfield established a significant reputation as an academic artist and a Symbolist painter during a vital time in the evolution of American art as a Victorian Visionary.
Presenter Carl Shatley is an accomplished educator, lecturer and artist who holds a Master of
Arts degree from Duke University in History and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from
Greensboro College. He has also studied at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Guilford Technical Community College.
